High School Essay Writing Workshop

Road to High School Essay Writing Workshops

A one-week writing workshop for incoming 7th through 10th graders featuring accessible instruction on how to author logical, clear, and compelling essays.

40 percent of those who took the ACT writing exam in the high school class of 2016 lacked the reading and writing skills necessary to complete successfully a college-level English composition (National Assessment of Education Progress).

Taught by a published, tenured Palo Alto High School English teacher, the Middle and High School Essay Writing Workshop is a one-week, hands-on, interactive course designed to give your son or daughter a clear understanding of the steps required for writing essays that make sense and earn high marks.

Attendees will master how to think through and write:

  • a concise and targeted thesis statement
  • the opening argument
  • the perfect paragraph
  • analysis that moves beyond plot summary and includes a close reading of literary devices
  • logical, grammatically-correct sentences
